The Start of the Voyage

For Henri and his crew the departure of his hometown was the real start of the voyage.
Here only the close family were present. The official start of the trip took place in Amsterdam. Here they make quit an event out of it. The director of the Norwegian travel agency was the first who make a speech for the coming weeks. A vocal-band from Langedijk even composed a real Vikingsong and sing the song. Here also came together all the sponsors and national media to say good by to the Orm on his long and sometimes even dangerous voyage to Oslo. |

The Netherlands

The Orm had a lovely sail on the IJsselmeer after the departure from Amsterdam.
With the wind at its back, Orm reached the first stop, Lemmer, in good time. The next day was a sail on the Friese Lakes, toward Bergum. After that, the crew headed for Groningen and Delfzijl. During the sail to Delfzijl it began to rain cats and dogs, and this, unfortunately, proved to be "normal" weather for the trip. In fact, that summer was one of the wettest Europe had ever seen. Orm left Dutch waters after Delfzijl. |
